The Fifes We Know and Love
TOLEDO, OHIO--At this point, you'd have to give Brian Griese strong consideration for the Doug Williams Award. Afterall, with the young quarterback under center, the Fifes exceded all expectations--not that anyone was expecting anything from Mayberry--and went undefeated. Griese hurts his shoulder, and the Fifes become the first team ever to be shut out in BFL history. Zero points breaks the old low scoring mark of 5 set by the Fifes in 1998.

The Mayberry loss and the Toledo win confirm nothing is certain in the BFL this season. Toledo returned to .500 after a disappointing start which threatened the tenure of former McKay Trophy-winner Sam Rutigliano, one of only two coaches remaining with his team since its inception.
"It's just a matter of things finally clicking," Rutigliano assured after the game. "The Ravens really proved why we thought they were the top defense in the league. Also, Brett [Favre] is starting to understand our scheme." The addition of Brian Sipe to the staff helped Favre better focus and learn the offense for his team after preseaon injuries prevented him from participating in post-draft camp.
