Grifters Don't Lose
MAYBERRY, NC--Sin City is heading to the Bucco Bruce Bowl, but after a narrow win in Mayberry, the team wasn't doing much bragging. "Luck was on our side," suggested quarterback Drew Brees.

"Like hell," countered team captain Chad Johnson. "If luck was on our side, we would have scored more than one touchdown."

Neither team did much to impress, dropping passes, missing tackles, and blocking... oh, the blocking...

"I'm thrilled to be going back to the Bucco Bruce Bowl after a nine year absence," reflected Grifters owner and general manager Jake Bell, "but I wish it was because both our teams were tearing up and down the field, leaving everything out there."

Mayberry owner Chris "Hollywood" Walker was gracious in defeat. "I can't say I'm happy, because I'm not, but I can't blame anyone but myself. When you build a team that needs Robbie Gould to score 13 points to eke into the title game, you're going to get what you deserve."

"If I was going to take a positive out of this game," suggested head coach Chuck Cecil, "it's that we can't play much worse next week than we did this week. Let's hope we got all the crap out of our system and can salt away the trophy by halftime in Tampa."

The win marked a fourth straight victory for Sin City. The team's last loss came in week eleven against Moose River, their opponent next Sunday.

Rollin' Moose River
ATHENS, GREECE--The Woodchucks strung together five- and six-game winning streaks during the 2007 season, but unfortunately it's the two game losing streak that ended their season they'll be thinking about all summer. "Seriously, there's only so much I can do,"shrugged Lee Roy Selmon Award winner Brian Westbrook. "

I don't mean to be point fingers, but maybe if someone whose name rhymes with Bandy Boss hadn't completely collapsed in his last four games, I could get away with scoring only 21 points."

Moose River walked away with an unlikely victory, not only because it was facing the winningest team in the league on the road, but because quarterback Jon Kitna threw five interceptions and Torry Holt proved to be the only Mountie who could find the end zone.

"We caught a break in that Athens wasn't playing well either," explained head coach Arthur Fonzarelli. "I knew it would be close but I told [owner Ryan Lindstrom] that if our defense could just get two sacks, we could wrap up the win. I didn't expect that they'd go out, get two sacks, and contribute nothing else to the game!"

Lindstrom refused to make any predictions about Sunday's game. "The Grifters will wage some kind of psychological warfare between now and then, but we have to make sure we don't get caught up in that game. We're just going to put this on the shoulders of guys like Jon Kitna, and LenDale White, and Chester Taylor... and T.J. Houshmandzadeh... holy crap, I'm buying some lottery tickets!"
